Meade County Schools is excited to welcome students back for the second semester on Tuesday, January 6, and sincerely thanks families for their continued support of student attendance throughout the first half of the school year.
Every school day truly matters. Students are most successful when they are consistently present in the learning environment, where they can engage with teachers, build relationships, and stay connected to their learning. Chronic absenteeism, defined as missing 10 percent or more of the school year, or roughly two days per month for any reason, excused or unexcused, can lead to learning gaps, missed opportunities, and students falling behind academically and socially.
Meade County Schools encourages families to prioritize daily attendance whenever possible and to keep students home only when they are genuinely too sick to attend. To support families in making informed decisions, additional guidance is available through the “When Is Sick Too Sick for School?” resource provided by Attendance Works.
The district is also proud to partner with Healthy Kids Clinics and Cumberland Family Medical Center, offering on-site medical care during the school day to help reduce missed instructional time. Permission slips for Healthy Kids Clinics are available here or through each school.
Thanks to strong collaboration between families, students, and staff, Meade County Schools saw positive growth in attendance during the first semester. Student attendance increased to 94.19 percent, up from 93.53 percent during the same period last year, a meaningful step forward for the district.
Meade County Schools looks forward to building on this progress as students return for the second semester. Together, we remain committed to ensuring every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed by being present each day.
Every School Day Counts.
